Hummmm, Dry climate you say? I would go with something that won't sap your well dry. Not sure about this as far as how much water it takes to grow, but I saw huge fields of Aloe in south Texas. The fact that the place was farmed back in 1906 and they "gave up the ghost" and no one has done it since would worry me somewhat, Honestly!
