731 of 29,746 model 50's were built to burn propane which is also known as LPG. Butane usage was never intended but the stuff is "close to LP". Butane is C4H10,molecular weight of 58.12 with 45.17 MJ/kg energy, mixes 3.579 parts O2 to 1 part fuel to burn completely & boils at -0.5C . Propane C3H8 weighs 50.35, 50.35 MJ/kg, requires 3.629 parts O2 to fuel & boils at -42.2C . So butane will develop less power & if the tank temp drops to about freezing there will be no pressure to push the fuel into the vaporizer. No vapour to start on either. So if butane is at least 10% cheaper than LP and the ambiant temp is high it will more or less work in place of LP.
