Only way I know of is a specal tester or to make sure the pickup and stator are good and all connections are proper, if it still doesn't send a signal to the coil it's bad. Modules are an integrated circuit type thing. The most important thing is that you've had two units bad, best guess it's not the parts, check all wiring real close. Is the dist. still turning? Oh, and do NOT use a dial type meter or test light for any testing, you need a digital with high impedance or it'll probably blow the electronics up.
