No you don't need a 5th wheel/goose neck but you will be happier if you do. I agree with brakes on both axles. Also go to 6ply tires on truck to handle the extra load it will carry. Your truck will tow your load fine if your not in extremely steep hills and your not in a hurry. I used to tow a goose neck with the same power train Ford. load was around 11,000 lbs. and could run at interstate speeds it just took a while to get there. :-)

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead!
