I've seen situations where the viscosity modifiers came out of suspension and made "Mungies" (my own term for them). Do you have a suction strainer for the hydraulics? If so it "should" catch the large stuff. You may also have a "filter" on the discharge of the pump to catch the small stuff (not familiar with your machine, so I don't know what your filter/strainer situation is). It's been my personal experience that soft metal babbit such as copper "Usually" won't cause any damage to the hard metal surfaces. Typically it's the hard metal babbit such as worn down bearing race, ball and roller that will cause damage such as Spalling (like hitting two hammer heads together and having small chunks fracture out, and not allways on the edges). Fresh oil after flushing out the system (including the sump) may be cheap insurance, not to mention peace of mind. Personally, I'd flush the system and put in fresh lube. No guarantees, I've seen some strange things happen even with good filtration...
