I have a 585, which is very similar tractor and I think shares many parts. Mine did the same thing. When I took apart everything in the lift system, the only bad part I found was the big O ring on the lift cylinder piston. It had become a D ring. My local CaseIH service manager agreed that was the problem. Put everything back together with some fresh parts in the control valve and it works great. I think what is going on is the O ring leaks, and when the lift drops due to the leakage, the control shoots more oil to it to maintain position. After having it apart and seeing how it worked, that was pretty obvious. The jumping up and down actually means the rest of the system is working very well, can sense the position change and compensate for it quickly.
