Our shop is 40x40 and is way too small for modern equipment, next shop will be 50x100x18 with a 20x100' lean to down one side. Figure about 4' in from each wall will be used for benches and shelves so your 20x24 is going to have about 12x16' of working space. I would recremend going at least 14' tall, a cab tractor will need a 12' tall door. Adding a loft above the work bench adds alot of storage without taking up floor space. I would use cement under all of it with heat in the floor and insulation under the concrete, once you get the concrete warm it won't take much to keep a shop that small warm.
