We just got a 9n in are shop here at school which was overhauled last year by the owner, with bad oil pressure, metal filings (chunks, actually)in oil, and low power. After doing compresion tests, leak-down test on valves, and pressurizing the oil lines, we decided to disassemble engine. Halfway thru, we found the problem, a single governor cover bolt which was about 1/4-3/8 to long had ruined the timing gear, causing teeth to break off and get into the bearings. now we're into a second overhaul with new crank, new bearings, new gaskets, another new pump, and rings. So be careful when working on your tractors. Just because it fits into the hole, doesn't mean its the right bolt.
