Well, most engines need to run at or above max torque RPM, BUT..I have always believed that 2-Cylinder JD's (Gas ) are at their BEST, when they are pulling moderate, to Med-Heavy loads...when they are at about 2/3 rated RPM...IF they are not operating at max power...you can tell, if the Governors have room to add power.... They were Designed to be a type of "High Expansion" Engine...Originally for "Heavy Fuels" like Diesel, and Kerosene..... A "B" w/ 2-14" Plow, in 4th gear, at just over an idle is a sound to Behold..!!! ( But it won't do that very often !!!! ) 50 Years of this has NOT hurt these....!!!!!!!!
