I have had quite a bit of experience with OTR trucks with Detroit engines and Cummins engines. The 6-71 and 8V-71 were outstanding engines, lots of power and good economy. Although it's true the Cummins would lug better, the Detroits would always outpull them and do it on less fuel. The new Detroits (60 series) are also good engines. I've never heard of Detroit using anybody else's engines and labeling them as their own and I can't see any advantage in them doing so. Detroit only makes engines, not trucks, so why would they do something like that? Maybe they do, but I suspect it's only a myth.

Anyway, an 8V-71 in a tractor would be a real horse!
