Mark, I personally wouldn't use silicon on any part that is in contact with gas because most of them are petroleum base and gas will dissolve it. You would have to read the label to be sure. I would think a piece of old inner tube or gasket material would be best. I have sharpened the end of metal conduit close to the right size and placed the material on a piece of wood to use conduit to cut gaskets. I found out when using RTV you should apply a thin coat and let it harden most of the way before assembly then it wouldn't ooze all over the place. Good Luck, Keith E.
