I was set on buying a John Deere 400 series tractor and an Allis-Chalmers 716H came up for sale just down the road from my house. It was the best $750 I ever spent. Has a deep 48inch mower deck and 36inch rear tiller. That tractor cuts a lawn perfectly, and it's a cinch to change the implements. A couple friends of mine have John Deere riders and they both take them into the shop for minor work because they are so mechanically complicated that they don't want to work on the tractors themselves. They are both farmers, btw. The 400 series John Deeres are nice machines, but you can get more mileage out of your $$$'s elswhere.
