I don't think it's the chain breaking that you've got to worry about. I don't think it would recoil like a broken cable, etc. However, a lot of discussion has been posted here on the forums about the dangers of pulling stumps with tractors. There are proper (and improper) ways to do it and some experienced types recommend not doing it at all by pulling. Check the archives using "stumps" as a key search word.
