Lyle has good suggestions. I really doubt that the generator circuit is involved in this-if it is, something was wrong with it before this incident. If parts store is not too far away, save some money by first replacing only the points and condensor plus any obviously damaged items, such as the wires. See if it works OK then. Verify that any damaged wires were the proper gage to begin with. I have a suspicion that the wires were already replaced with too-small gage and that caused them to get hotter than ordinarily would be the case. Good chance that the coil is still usable. Have seen the switch left on completely discharging the battery and the coil surviving the incident. If the points happened to be open when the engine stopped, nothing would have happened. Statistically though, the chances are greater that the points will be closed when the engine is stopped.
