The tractor came from the factory with a 6 volt battery, POSITIVE ground (6 volt has 3 caps on top of battery, 12 volt has 6). If it has been converted to 12 volt, it is probably negative ground, like most cars. It could still be 6 volt and positive ground if someone polarized the voltage regulator such, but unlikely. Also, another way to tell, most 6 volt batteries, one of the posts on the battery is thicker than the other, and you would be able to tell which is which by the cables on the tractor, though not all batteries are like this. Also, if it has been converted to 12 volt, it will likely have a alternator(should look the one on a car) on it instead of a generator. If this is still not clear, as I ain't the best person to describe stuff, post back and I or someone else will try to clarify.
