trailer trouble

Hi yall. The trouble I'm having is with the wiring the trailer. When I plug the trailer to the truck the lights work, but they are very dim. I thought the straight ground from the truck was not strong enough, so I hitched to the trailer. Now one of the tail lights wont work. what happened, what am I doing wrong here? Thanks for any help.
