I'm not sure on the Massey Fergusons, but on the Massey Harris tractors, if the plate is missing, then the s/n is also hand-stamped into the top of the transmission case on the machined surface between the cast iron shifting platform (that the gear lever comes out of) and the steel plate that bolts down to cover the gears. Should be on the drivers left on that upper surface in the location of the clutch pedal which is on the side. Let us know how you make out. You'll have to do some scraping and wire-brushing, it's probably filled with paint, etc. Did you figure out what model you have?
