I have a JD950 compact 4x4 that does all I need. I mow mostly flat pasture. But I also mow some pretty good slopes on the ditches along the road. I also mow in and out of the trees along my creek. I generally stay in 2wd except on the slopes. Then I use the 4wd both for traction and better braking. I also use the 4wd when using my box blade. I could not get a full size tractor in to mow between the trees along the creek.
