Ray makes a good point about warranties. Most makers will find any excuse they can to wiggle out of some warranty costs. Recommended intervals with specified oils would be a good plce to start wiggling. Hard headed Hoosier logic, Ray. I commend you. Your cost analysis may be a tad overstated. I think the list on Amsoil is 6 to 9 bucks a quart- depending on the flavor you choose, and dealers may sell it for less. Plus, the whole idea is that you can use the Amsoil for a longer time between changes. Yes, OK, it probably voids a warranty, but there are a lot of machines that have no warranty. That aside, I agree. Ray's overall logic is probably right. Keep the warranty in force and drive the street vehicles into the ground. Odds are something else will pack it up on your truck or my truck before 300K miles. Or, some idiot will run into you, causing the insurance company to total it. In my long winded post, I only mentioned obliquely that I used Valvoline petro oil in my old van -- and didn't say that I've used petro oil in all of my other street cars or trucks since then. I figure they're expendable. Time, bad luck, or economics will do them in before the engine pukes. I'm not running street cars or trucks even half as hard as a race car, nor babying them nearly as much as my 37 and 48 year old tractors -- which I consider to be treasures worth saving. The tractors and the race engines aren't under warranty. I know -- or at least I've seen a lot of bearings as evidence -- that a synthetic will protect them better. So any other economic consideration is out the window. These are the machines that have names, and that are part of the family. If I ever have a street car or truck I considered to be a treasure -- or one that I'd given a name to and consdered it a family member -- I'd use a synthetic in it, also. That's where my nose ends. So in this like most other things in life, you pays your money and takes your chances. Good luck. Steve

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned. But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
