I'll probably get laughed out of here, but......... I have a 7 year old 18HP/46" deck rider that I bought from Montgomery Wards. It's made by MTD, so they are still plenty around (MTD makes lots of mowers for just about every store that sells mowers). I have 5 acres that I've been mowing with this thing...and I am not talking nice grass, but rough field. This hummer is still mowing as hard today as the day I bought it. The only thing I've done to it in 7 years is change the belts (recently) and replaced one pulley on the deck. Of course, I do all the normal engine maintenance, etc. The deck has lost most of its paint, but there is no hint of any wear through or rust through on this thing...and it sits outside year round. If i recall correctly, I paid $1300 for it. Even has a hydrostatic transmission. Just a thought.....

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
