Mahindra???

I'm a newbie to tractors and in the market for my first one. I've been doing lots of reading on the net in recent months trying to learn what I can before I go make a multi-thousand dollar mistake, but I am still seeking advice and information.

I have 5 acres of rough field to hog 3-4 times a year and an 800 foot long gravel driveway that needs maintenance. Although I don't have a constant need for a loader, having one would sure be handy at times.

To this end, I have pretty much given up on used tractors. Around here (near San Antonio, Tx), used tractors in the 30-40 HP range bring premium prices, regardless of condition (or so it seems). For example, a Ford Jubilee I just looked at is selling for $5500! Owner says it has been rebuilt, but has no paperwork to prove it. Of course, it has been repainted, but it looks like they didn't even try to clean it before painting it, they just painted right over the oil and grease. Most used tractors around here are in pretty much this same boat...soooo, I've decided to go new.

I've been looking at the Mahindra (I have 4 local dealers of them), so I feel safe concerning parts and service. I've driven them at the dealers and they seem like very capable, heavy machines. I do know that Mahindra worked with IH starting in 1963 to develop tractors and it seems they learned their lessons well. Still, other than a quick drive and some internet information, I know nothing about them. Anyone here own a Mahindra, or have actual work experience with them? Thoughts or opinions? I am considering a 4500 model with 6 ft shredder and possibly a loader.

I know 5 acres isn't much for this size of tractor, but within the next 4-5 years I will be moving to Pennsylvania and expect to be handling larger land size (probably somewhere near 15-20 acres or more)so I want to buy now in anticipation of this.

My only real-world experience with using a tractor is a borrowing my neighbor's old IH 404 to hog my field. What a beast. The brakes don't work at all and half the time it won't start. I've definitely decide I want power steering and a dual clutch (which the Mahindra has, of course).
