The D19 is sold (pouting). I too have been concerned about the initial use of the backhoe on a tractor. As we have not yet sold our current home, we now have 2 homes to pay for. The old homestead we bought laid abandoned for many years and needs much work. Have to dig for water line from well to house (about 100 yards or little more) at 6' to 7' deep, dig for electrical to outbuildings (60 yds & 90 yds) and possibly to home as well (20 yds), and when we get to it, will have to update the septic. After our current home sells and once the "new" old homestead is updated, I'm gonna try my hand at building a tractor I've designed. Can't go into any more detail than that right now cause it's all experimental. There's only one other person I know of who is working on something vaguely similar, but I will be building my machine just for me. After that, I'll most likely offer my plans for free to individuals who wish to build one or more "FOR THEIR OWN USE". Anyway, getting back on topic, let me say that I'm not widely familiar with any tractor I have not owned, and I have only had smaller machines in the past. So basically what I'm asking for in this forum is what machine 'you' think would suit my immediate needs. FEL will be used a lot, but I don't think that's a problem. And whatever tractor I get will more than take care of any tilling, bush hog, snow plowing, etc, etc, that I may need it for. As Dave T and Steve posted (thank you both for replying), my main concern is going to be whether to get a backhoe attachment for my tractor or to get an additional machine with a permanent backhoe. Finances say I'd "like" to hear that I could get by with a backhoe attachment. So I came here to get the comments and advice of others more knowledgeable and experienced than myself to find out: 1. Can a 3pt backhoe handle the tasks I've mentioned above or do I need to get a specialized machine 2. If I can use a tractor with backhoe attachment, what size and model tractor would 'you' recommend, and, if possible, why? 3. What disadvantages or risks might be involved in using a 3pt backhoe? (I've used standard backhoes in the past, but hoping to save some money for my experimental design) After the above tasks are completed, I'll only have occasional light use for the backhoe. Sorry for being so long-winded, but I've never claimed to be able to express my thoughts in few words, and I'm not used to writing to folks online. Anyway, I would appreciate any comments or suggestions that will help me choose the right machine(s).

Upgrading an Oliver Super 55 Electrical System - by Dennis Hawkins. My old Oliver Super 55 has been just sitting and rusting for several years now. I really hate to see a good tractor being treated that way, but not being able to start it without a 30 minute point filing ritual every time contributed to its demise. If it would just start when I turn the key, then I would use it more often. In addition to a bad case of old age, most of the tractor's original electrical system was simply too unreliable to keep. The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
