The position of the axle and the springs is the factory original from Dexter. Has couple of advantages this way. One is that it lowers the trailer without having to use an offset axle. Putting the axle under the spring would make the trailer higher by about 5 inches. The other is that if the axle should happen to come loose, the spring still keeps it from leaving the trailer.
