If you have fairly level ground, they work really well. If you are dealing with hilly ground, stay with the hand-held. I bought one primarily for mowing a ditch line and it does a good job of mowing, but it's hard to maneuver in rough terrain. Fence posts and fence wire are hard on the strings. Get the heavy duty string. Mine is a 6 1/2 horse DR (kind of pricey - but my wife got it for me for my birthday). I wouldn't go any smaller that that. There are lots of them out there now that are much cheaper than the DR and probably just as good.
