The TO35 Deluxe (which it sounds like you have) has ground speed and engine speed for the PTO. You should use engine speed. Ground speed will not be fast enough. Since it is a two forward speed rear end, I use the first gear in the high rear end setting. After unhooking the mower you can raise it with a front end loader, or back boom pole, or use a pulley to a strong garage beam, but then block it up, don't trust the boom, etc. That is, if you don't have a pit like Randy suggested. As to height, that depends on type of grass, terrain, etc. I would think you wouldn't want to cut any lower than 3 inches, generally, and maybe higher ... depending. Having said all that, do you have access to a 3 pt hitch mower? That would be much easier to maneuver than the pull behind type. Anyway, be safe, as Randy said.
