If you can afford it, I'd go with a new one. Why? Well, by the list of things you might light to use, the hydraulics of tractors made in the last 10 years (compact tractors, that is), the hydraulic flow and power are really better that the predecessors (I'm not counting large farm tractors). I'd advise getting 4wd if you're only going to have one tractor and get it set up for a loader, whether you buy the loader the same time you buy the tractor. Also, consider a remote hydraulic hookup...comes in handy with other implements you don't even own yet! I'm partial to Kubota (take a look at the L3010). Not to slam the "green" guys, but JD is considerably higher priced for the same features that you could get with Kubota or New Holland, at least here in Illinois. If you buy used, be wary of tractors that have high hours but are only a few years old. The tractor has been worked hard by contractors or landscapers and there's a reason why they sold it.
