I was working for Navistar/ which is now called International Truck and Engine Corporation. I was at the Chatham assembly plant here in Ontario. We built Class8 Trucks ( highway tractors etc) The plant has been here for 50 years plus. I was laidoff (been there 10 years) last November due to lack of orders. Now the last 600 employees are on strike. The company wants a 30% wage cut ,4day 10 hour work week, with Mandatory OT for Friday and Saturday. There list of demands goes on and on.(They are looking for 28 million/per year in cost cutting but have only found 14mill,so the rest comes from our pockets) our wages are high for the area about 26.00/hr Canadian but when you figure the Can$ is only worth .63cents US$ we are our less per hour than our sister plant in Ohio. Navistar has a new plant in Escabado Mexico and that is where our production is being sent at the time. It sounds as if the plant will close. Our CEO (John Horne)has had 50% pay raises every year for the last few years, and our VP( Keates) in charge of fleet sales has had raises amounting to 86 % in the last couple of years. Greed seems to be the only driving force of these companies
