I was mowing hay last night (going in a straight line minding my own business) and I heard a significant noise (had earplugs in). As I found the tractor had no hydraulics and the engine was still running I figured the pump gear went south (has the piston style pump). After removing the pump this morning I found that the pump gear was locked-up (filled with metal) and the cam gear was stripped clean off. After picking out the metal from the pump gear, the pump appears to be fine. I think the pump retaining nut loosened up and the gear caught the housing (possible?). Note: I rebuilt this pump three or four years ago and two years back I installed a new pump gear as the internal spline teeth were striped out (not sure why). Could it be there is another problem I am not seeing? In addition, who sells replacement pump cam gears? I am down to one tractor and more hay to cut. I am not looking forward to splitting the tractor but I feel lucky the rest of the engine did not go south as well.
