I have read the postings with growing concern. My husband and I are considering buying our first minivan and it's a used 1997 Dodge Caravan with 80,000 on it. We're buying it from a close friend of my dad's who sells cars not claimed at his towing yard. I know he got a "safety check" and had the brakes replaced and the gas tank and fuel pump replaced (due to the previous owners putting diesel in the tank - then they never claimed it figuring it was dead)but I am hesitant now to buy it. What can I do for the van now that will help it last? It's a great buy and I'd hate to pass it up. I just don't want us to be paying for it (so to speak) constantly.
