I've made two hydraulic top links out of common cyclinders. The first one was a 1½" cyclinder and it didn't last too long. Soon it had a crack on an end and was leaking, and the end flandges were bent and distorted. Common (cheap) cyclinders just don't have enough "meat" in/on the ends for the severe duty a top link gets. Maybe a better cyclinder could cure some of this, but then it would no longer be a cheap project either. The second one i made out of a 3" cyclinder, and it's holding up a lot better, but i've learned not to use it where it will get abused. I made ends that allow the use of the pins that come with these cyclinders, that adapt to "ball ends". So it wasn't that i had it hooked solid that put all the stress on the cyclinder. Anyway, i think a "real" store bought one would be great to have "if" they didn't cost so much!! And the "home made" one is "ok" if you are carefull with it. Robert
