The dual clutch set up is "LIVE pto", as you described it. You push the clutch in ½ way to stop the tractor, and all the way in to stop the pto. "Independent pto" is nothing more than the same set up, "EXCEPT" it has an "independent" means to turn the pto on and off, like a handle to move, or a electric switch on the dash. It still has the two clutches, and usually they are in the same place as the dual clutch set up above. Example: The Deutz 40-06 has live pto, (dual clutch set up) the Deutz 45-06 has a few more hp and has independent pto. (lever on the side of the tractor) They are other wise very close to the same tractor. Robert
