Hi, Broice ... I'm sure you're gonna get a lot of replies 'cuz we ALL got our own opinions when it comes to tractors ... but since I'm apparently the first to read your message, I'll give it my 2 cents worth. I'd say, keep looking. First, you'd definitely appreciate having a 3-point hitch. It's easier to find implements to fit a 3-point and one heck of a lot easier to put them on and take them off the tractor. It's also very useful to have live PTO (i.e., PTO will turn while tractor is moving) for things like running a mower, baler, snow blower, etc. Depending on how long you're willing to keep looking, you just might be able to find a good, complete, well-running tractor with 3-pt. and live PTO for two grand, certainly for three. I think $2k is too high for a running but not otherwise impressive 1950's Oliver w/o 3-pt. If it came with a bunch of implements to fit it, that might be different. Just MY opinion, anyway. Oh, a little tip ... when you find a tractor you're interested in, go to the discussion board here for that make, then do a search for the particular model. Most models of tractors were good, but a very few -- most would agree -- were "lemons." Reading what owners and former owners say about them will help you sort the good from the not-so good. Hope this is at least a tiny bit of help ... good luck! Cim

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
