Yeah, a couple suggestions. You need to determine which direction the problem is coming from. When it doesn't start have an extra spark plug handy and lay it on the engine with a plug wire attached and see if you've got spark when you crank it. If that works then switch to fuel. A small shot of starting fluid in the upper end of the breather tube towards the carb will tell if it's a lack of fuel. If nothing there, you might do a compression check. There only four things an engine needs to run, fuel/air mix, spark, compression and, of course, for all of them to happen at the right time.
