Thanks for the advice, Dave. Where I launch the boat there is no ramp, just beach and soft sand. I think the extra weight is needed for traction (I've seen four wheel drive Expeditions etc. get stuck) but I'm not sure. My Massey Harris 20 is definitely not a Pony, bigger and it didn't get stuck once last summer!
