I just finnished my M farmall ...all I wanted was to get hydraulics to my Oliver loader I put on my M Farmall AND get my charlynn power steering to work by using a M&W live pump..sounds easy right ?? Don't try to get them to work by using this pump.....NOT ENOUGH VOLUME!!!I really don't think they have more than 8 or 10 GPM...this is not enough to do the job..so know matter if someone tells you to just go buy expensive $75 to $100 priority valve and this will solve your problem..you CAN'T get them both to work..NOT at the same time ..after all it is a Farmall..hydraulics ain't worh a crap..maybe if you go get a 450 pump and put it on you might get enough ..but then you have to change the timing chain cover and flex plate with it ..if you ever try it ..just save your self alot of time and aggravation..just run your p/steering off the old belly pump and run your loader or 3 point cylinders off the live pump ..be happy with that or mount another live pump off the crank somehow..or just find a small car power steering and use that..so far I have had to take the timing chain off twice..once to put the live M&W pump with the timing chain cover ..then again after I accidently was trying to switch hoses around for the 50th time trying to get the priority valve to do BOTH jobs which I NEVER did get it to do...,,and I deadheaded my pump for about 5 seconds and broke my gear off the Camshaft..that was fun to do all over again after I just took it off to mount the M&W pump....then after going thru about 15 gallons or more of hyd fluid, and swithing around cylinders that was leaking ..I finally have it done I gave up thru the ^%&(*^(^ Priority valve as far as I could out the door..and hooked my steering to belly pump...it all works fine except I don't have live power steering all the time .. wellI am glad this is behind me .. I can't wait to get my next victim in the shop to mount another loader that I just had to buy ..a 450 INT.with REAL power steering ,3 point ,wide front ...the bad thing is ..even though I have it all working on the M...sooner or later the extra work and load on the worm and sector gears will take it toll..I will only buy newer tractors to build up for loaders..not try to change the old stuff to make it work..now it is time to get all this Hyd fluid off me and call it a day..mark

Today's Featured Article - Hydraulic Basics - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In the last entry to this series we gave a brief overview of hydraulic system theory, its basic components and how it works. Now lets take a look at some general maintenance tips that will keep our system operating to its fullest potential. The two biggest enemies to a hydraulic system are dirt and water.
