The lowest amperage version of the Delco 10SI I have found is 37 amp. A 20-30 amp tractor guage will run full scale untill the battery is nearly full. Is the sense wire (#2 on the alternator case) connected to the BAT stud on the alternator rear? This wire must connect to alternator output terminal for the regulator to work. An open connection to the #2 regulator plug wire will cause the alternator to charge flat out with no regulator control. You can check regulator operation by measuring voltage at the battery posts with the engine running atleast 1/2 speed. Ideal voltage to a fully charged battery is 14.2 volts and should not exceed 15 volts. Voltage may be a little less untill the battery nears full charge,but should not be under the 13.5 volts necessary to charge a 12v battery.
