First off, not many of the parts are interchangable. Both tractors have pro's and cons, but it depends a lot on which model fergie it is. Since you think it lloks like a 8N, we'll assume it's a TO or TE-20. Generally, the 8N is a flathead, while the fergie will be an overhead valve engine...advantage fergie. I am pretty sure that performance will be similar, but the parts for an 8N are much more easy to find. If the tractor is in great shape, then this isn't a big worry, but if it needs stuff, factor this in....advantage Ford. Some cool stuff on the Fergie include the pop up hood....this makes maintenace much easier....advantage Fergie. Again if the tractor was in great shape, I wouldn't shy away from the Fergie, although I don't think they bring as much on a resale as an 8N, mostly because they are less familiar to most people. Good Luck Steve
