I would check out the deck spindle bearings, like Bigdog suggested. If your deck is built like my White 12.5, the whole spindle/bearing/mounts come out with a few bolts, once you have the pulleys off. Sometimes the sealed bearings will stick in the mounts or to the spindle shafts, but they will generally come off with a little penetrating oil. The bearings are cheap and easily available. The other problem I have encountered is unbalanced blades. I bought one of those little balancers and carefully balance the blades whenever I sharpen them. It makes a big difference in smoothness. Don't just keep working the machine with the shafts vibrating. If you do, the deck itself may crack around the spindle mounts. I ended up welding up my kinda ancient White deck after that happened to me. It's working OK, but was quite a bit of hassle. Good luck.
