Education is, by far, the greatest safety improvement on the modern farm. Safety camps are held each summer to teach young people the correct , safe way to behave in the farm environment. That said, good judgement sometimes is impaired by deadlines, weather, etc. The best safety devices engineered can not replace the decision-making process. Along with good safety practices must be taught common sense. My Dad is often saying that the most dangerous animal in the world is the American farmer - overworked, underpaid, overstressed and with the weight of the world on his shoulders. My grandfather died in a late evening mowing accident in 1964. Wish he had been able to say "It can wait till tomorrow".
