Wal Mart (I think most of us have heard of them) also sells pails of 80-90 wt. gear oil, R&O hydraulic fluid, and tractor transmission fluid. I beleive that the same supplier private labels all these fluids for the big retailers. We use the R&O fluid in harvesting equipment which only operates cylinders and motors. Actually the R&O oil is relatively cheap at $3.75 per gallon. I would use the tractor transmission fluid in the Fergerson system of your tractor. While some people believe that the tractor dealers sell the best(and most expensive) fluid for tractors, I did not beleive that their fluids are better than other high quality fluids available from an oil jobber. For 25 years, I ran a large sawmill with large hydraulic systems operating at 1500 to 2500 psi with outputs up to 240 GPM. I always used Cheveron Delo 400 10wt motor oil. We would change the oil every 6 months (about 1200 gallons) along with the filters and clean the cooling radiators monthly. Some of the system pumps had 30000 hours on them before being replaced. Four of the systems were hydraulic linear positioning systems with servo valves capable of positioning cylinders within 0.020" within 1.5 seconds. The msot important aspect of any hydraulic system is to have the correct fluid maintained at the proper level and keep the oil CLEAN AND NOT OVERHEATED.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
