On the oil issue, those are generally best case scenarios that are listed, kind of like service recommendations on cars. Car operators manuals usually say something like a 6000 mile oil-change interval, unless it's operated in certain conditions. The trouble is, nearly every car on the road fits into the certain conditions that require more frequent maintenance, lol. Oil itself does not wear out - it will never lose it's lubricity. What does wear out is the additive package - anti-corrosion agents, detergents, anti-friction agents and so forth. It's also not generally known that an oil filter actually filters better as it goes along, because the buildup of contaminates on the filter media leads to smaller and smaller paths for the oil to flow through. Obviously, at a certain point, the filter will become completely plugged and then bypass - not good. JD Plus 50 oil is designed and proven by JD to extend the oil change interval by 50 percent without losing the additives. So, if you normally run 100 hours, you can run Plus 50 for 150 hours, and so on. It's a good idea to change oil often, but if you're doing it too often, you're actually wasting money because you're changing the oil before it's necessary. Kind of like overhauling an engine that isn't worn out. The oil looks "dirty" because it's doing it's job, catching contaminants and keeping them in suspension, rather than letting them build up on internal engine components. I think 100 to 150 hours is a pretty good interval, though, especially if the tractor is subjected to a lot of idling, cold starts and so on.
