Sean ---- If I was going to pick a tractor for this project,I would look for something with trans. & rearend castiron housing......no alum. & no belt drive.....horspower is not as important as traction......early IH cub cadet 12 HP Koeler would be perfect. I had a'69 - 126...It had 7.50 AGR. tires 0n the back with chains I made ....floatation tires on the front.....I made a weight for the back....a piece of channel iron turned up, large enough to hold a concrete block...make sure you have height clearance, keep it ctose to the tractor...then drill a hole and bolt it to the hitch....2" square tubing welded under the channel, the tubing ran forward under the axle housings,it sat level...drill 2 holes in the channel double nut 2- 3/8" thread all rod, long enough to set 2 concrete blocks on the channel......turn another piece of channel over the block,on top of the 2 rods....cut 4 pieces of 1/2" pipe,8 1/4"....slide a pair over the rods and center the first block on the channel......fill block with cement....cover it with alum. foil place second block over, the first one ,do the same .....add the top channel...It comes apart so you can handle it...the foil is to keep the block from sticking togeather...Now with you in the seat, you are ready....I used this rig to backfill foundations and spread gravel......People would gather to watch this little tractor work....Your tractor must be in great condition to take the strain of your loader and this weight.....A 20 HP Power King tractor would be great also..Hyrostat = power steering, a must .....sorry about the long post, but I had to tell you about mine....12HP cadet is perfect.....

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
