You are very close there F14, the oil doesn't boil but the pump draws cavities on the suction side that implode on the pressure side and when they do they make the noise you hear( like marbels rolling around in the pump ) As well as making noise they lift metal out of the pump housing and leave funny looking holes. I don't think this would break a gear tooth. I would clean the screen well make sure that the oil is light enough, the tank breather holds pressure (if it's suposed to) and that the engine speed is not too fast. Some backhoe loaders are not suposed to run at full engine speed when sitting and digging. Later Bob
