We were useing gas engines, and the Germans were useing diesel engines. That was considered a big advantage for them. The diesel engine they used were Deutz air cooled.
Some of the gassers we had (don't know what ones) had 283 Chevys in them.
I'm too young for WW2, so no first hand knowledge here.
