The Custom Model "B" Tractor. made in Shelbyville IN. had a 6 cyl Chrysler flathead (inline) industrial engine and had a "Link Belt" reduction unit between the transmission output shaft and the differential. The "Link Belt" reduction unit is "chain" drive. The engine had the same bore and stroke, bearings, oil pump, valves and distributor as one of the 1948 Dodge Pick Up Engines and in addition had a belt driven govenor. The engines could easily be made to overpower the differential or the "link Belt" reduction unit; both were often the "failure mode" for the tractor. The engine govenor could be easily adjusted to "MUCH" higher RPM which gave more horse power. The Pick Up Engines were rated at something about 72 horsepower. I think that these engines ran quite well at 3600 RPM.
