The Ford V8 was an aluminum engine that was a cut down V12. Henry Ford was asked by the gov't to build the the V12 Rolls-Royce engine and he said he would build one of his own design. Did make some V12's but the gov't needed tank engines worse so they made them as V8,s. Aluminum, overhead cam, watercooled. They even had a rebuild program for them during the war at the Ford factory.
