Thanks Al and Jim I'll keep the advice handy. I called my local JD store (found a new friendly resource there). He said try first checking the battery, then move on to other possibilities. Why? He explained the PTO uses an electric clutch that draws tremendous amounts of electricity and if the battery is weak it will not be able to recharge fast enough. So I had it checked, 82% good. But the guy at auto parts store suggested just clean up the terminals. So sanded down the terminals and connectors and put them firmly back on. That actually fixed the problem...for now. I suspect it may crop up again. In the mean time, at least the lawn was cut. Thanks again Tim Conway
