Guys, I question the statment that a 12V coil is a 6V with an internal resistor. I think a true 12V coil has a 12V primary winding. I do not think any coil could absorb the amount of heat an internal resistor would generate,nor have I ever found any marked as having an internal resistor. I think a lot of misinformation is caused by the fact that most 12V automotive coils are designed to work with an external resistor and are so marked. This is so they can have a hotter spark for starting by bypassing the external resistor while cranking to feed 12V to the 6-8V primary winding. A true 12V coil like used on the early 12V 2 cyl JD's, many lawn tractors and Molines had no external resistor and did not generate the kind of heat an internal resistor would produce. JMHO
