IM 34 MY KIDS ARE 14, 12 AND 10. I DONT COME FROM A FARMING BACKGROUND BUT HAVE PARTLY RESTORED A MINI NUFFIELD TRACTOR. I CANT FINISH IT BECAUSE IT IS TO HANDY WITH THE FRONT LOADER. MY KIDS ARE DAFT ON ANYTHING VINTAGE. WHICH CAN BE A PROBLEM AS THEY HAVE A KEENER EYE THAN ME FOR SPOTTING OLD IRON ABANDONED (RESTING UNTILL SOMEONE WAKES THEM UP WITH A RESTORATION) IN HEDGEROWS OR YARDS ETC. WHICH LEADS TO THE INEVITABLE QUESTION 'CAN WE GET IT?'. THE LOCAL CLUB 'THE AYRSHIRE VINTAGE TRACTOR AND MACHINERY CLUB' HAS RECENTLY STARTED A SPECIAL SECTION TO GET KIDS INTERESTED AND STARTED IN THE HOBBY. IN 1999 THE CLUB HOSTED THE NATIONAL ROAD RUN AT TURNBERRY WHICH HAD OVER 450 TRACTORS ON THE ROAD FOR A 35 MILE DRIVE. THERE WERE SPECTATORS LINED ALONG MOST OF THE ROUTE AND NO PROBLEMS FROM TRAFFIC. THIS CAN ONLY BE GOOD FOR OUR HOBBY. EVEN MY WIFE WHO USED TO SAY WHATS THE POINT OF THIS OR WHY THE *@~# DID YOU BUY THAT IS NOW GETTING INTERESTED. I ALSO HAVE A LARGE DORMAN 2 CYL DIESEL STATIONARY ENGINE. VARIOUS SMALL GENERATORS AND ENGINES AND AM BUYING A DALE 3PHASE GENERATOR WHICH IS BASICALLY A DB TRACTOR ENGINE ON A SKID UNIT WITH WITH RADIATOR GRILL FRONT AND BACK AND DOULE HOOD. ALL THIS FROM A TOWNEY WITH NO FAMILY BACKGROUND IN THIS FIELD.

I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
