Hi Steve. I can tell you here in Southwestern Idaho, we use pre-emergent herbicides such as Lasso from Monsanto on sh2 (shrunken, super sweet) varieties. Later escapes of grasses are controlled with Accent from Dupont. Usually the pre plant incorporated products are the most important since they take away the initial flush of weeds. Some of the weaker varities of super sweet corn won't take 2,4-D very well and can cause injury to the plants. We treat the sh2 types of sweet corn very carefully. They are not the strongest type to tolerate the usual run of herbicides that field corn is able to. Your supplier of seed has contact with the contract seed co and they know what weakness that the variety has towards certain herbicides. Crookham Co. here in Caldwell,Id has excellent varities and very good knowledge of weed control usage in their sweet corn seed production.
